DAVIS, William Lipscomb, Jr. "Buzz" - Age 81. Passed away on the 21st of May, 2013. He was the son of William Lipscomb and Annee Haley Davis and preceded in death by his sister, Martha Davis Sarratt. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Florence Stumb Davis; children, William Lipscomb Davis III (Kim), Adelaide Davis Stevens, Virginia Annee Davis; mother, Adelaide Shull Davis; brother, Harrison Shull Davis (Robbie); brother-in-law, Dr. Paul R. Stumb (Mary); grandchildren, Lipscomb Davis IV (Rachel), Haley Davis, Will Hannon (Mary Julia), Janie Hannon, Ro Stevens and Davis Stevens. He graduated from Montgomery Bell Academy in 1949 and Vanderbilt University in 1953 where he was a member of Beta Theta Pi and Omicron Delta Kappa honorary fraternity. He served as a lieutenant in the United States Army, stationed in Germany in 1954-55. He joined his father at Davis Cabinet Company in 1956, serving as President from 1965-1980. In 1980, he became a partner in Hillsboro Enterprises. He served as a Deacon, Elder and Clerk of the Session at First Presbyterian Church. Mr. Davis served on the boards of Bradford Furniture Company, Gale Smith and Company, Genesco, Life and Casualty Insurance Company, Murray-Ohio Manufacturing Company, Nashville City Bank, Thomas Nelson Inc., The Potomac Group, Third National Bank, Third National Corporation, SunTrust, Nashville Bank & Trust (now Truxton Trust Company), American General Insurance Company (Houston, TX), Bradford Showroom (Memphis, TN), Durr-Fillauer Medical Inc. (Montgomery, AL), Peden Steel (Raleigh, NC), Rhodes College (Memphis, TN), and Southern Furniture Manufacturers Association (High Point, NC). Active in the community, he also served on the boards of the Sam M. Fleming Foundation, the M. Stratton Foster Foundation, Junior Achievement, Middle TN Council of Boy Scouts, Montgomery Bell Academy, The Rotary Club, Chairman of The Sgt. York Patriotic Foundation, United Cerebral Palsy, and President of the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce. Buzz was a member of The Augusta National Golf Club, The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews, Scotland, a founding member of The Golf Club of Tennessee, and a former President of Belle Meade Country Club. Visitation will be held on Friday, the 24th of May from two o’clock until five o’clock in the afternoon in Courtenay Hall of First Presbyterian Church. Funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, the 25th of May at ten-thirty in the morning at First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Todd B. Jones and Dr. William T. Bryant officiating.
