He was born May 15, 1947 in Clinton, Tennessee to William Carson McCormick Sr. and Mae Evelyn McCormick (Jones)
After finishing high school in Altoona, Florida he enlisted in the United States Army. Upon finishing basic training he completed jump school and became a member of the 101st airborne. After finishing jump school Bill volunteered to be a door gunner on a UH – 1 Huey helicopter and served two tours of duty in Vietnam. Bill received numerous air metal citations/awards during his time in the service which was June 12, 1964 to June 11, 1970.
Bill began his career with the Nashville Fire Department in 1971 serving faithfully and courageously for 43 years. He retired achieving the rank of Captain of Engine 12 on the A shift. Bill moved up through the ranks from Firefighter to Engineer and then to Captain. Bill was certified as a Rescue Technician as well as a Hazmat Technician.
Bill retired from the Fire Department in 2012. After retirement Bill enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He especially enjoyed being with his grandchildren and watching his granddaughter Jadyn play softball.
Bill is preceded in death by parents William Carson McCormick Sr. and Mae Evelyn McCormick (Jones). Bill is survived by his wife Charlene, his daughters Michelle (Donya) McCormick and Elizabeth (Johnny) Newland, his grandchildren Tyler Moseley, Ashley Newland, Miriam Newland and Jadyn Newland and his great-grandchildren Landon Moseley, Ayden Moseley, Adalynn Moseley, Malachi Newland and Nyjah Newland.
A gathering of family and friends will be Wednesday June 27th from 4 pm until 8 pm and Thursday June 28th from 10:30 am until 11:30 am.
A Celebration of Life Service will be Thursday June 28th at 11:30 am in Woodlawn’s Dignity Hall with Metro Nashville Fire Department Honor Ceremony.
Interment with Military Honors will be at 2 pm at Middle Tennessee Veterans Cemetery located at 7931 McCrory Lane Nashville, Tennessee. 37221
