

William C. Sloan Jr. Age 90, born Jan 7, 1920 in Nashville, TN. Passed away February 12th, 2010. Served in WWII, in the Pacific theater in logistics, captured April 1942, survived the Bataan Death March, and was held as a POW for forty-four months in Japanese prison camps. While imprisoned in Japan he was an eye witness survivor of the atomic bomb that was dropped on Nagasaki. He retired from American Freightliners-Teamsters 480. A loving father and devoted husband, William C. Sloan Jr. served his country with honor and lived and died a hero to all the people that knew him. Preceded in death by parents, William Sr., Georgia Overton; Former wife, Margaret Wrenn Sloan; brothers, Howard & Russell; Grandson, Daryl Sloan. Survived by his loving wife, Mary Catherine Sloan; Sons, Ronnie (Ann) Sloan, Tom (Lynn) Sloan, Timmy Sloan, John and Michael Swift; Sisters, Marge (Norm) Rhodes & Rita (John) Carswell; Grandchildren; April, Wrenn, Lee, Amanda, Sean Swift; Great grandchildren, Braden, Ryan, & Harley. The family will be receiving friends at Woodlawn Funeral Home on Monday, February 15th between 2p.m.-7p.m for visitation.
