Cristin M. Markey passed away peacefully on Monday, May 27, 2024 at the age of 43 after an eight-month battle with cancer. She was preceded in death by her grandmothers, Alice and Pam; her cousin, Rhianna; and beloved corgi, Ms. Markey. Cristin is survived by her wife, Rosy; dog, Penny; parents, Russ and Julie; twin sister, Tricia; as well as aunts, cousins, and nephew.
Originally from Imperial Beach, Cristin moved to the Bonita area at age six, attending Tiffany Elementary, Bonita Junior High, and Bonita High School. She was always one of the smartest--and funniest-- in any of her classes and left an indelible mark on her teachers and classmates. Outside of school, Cristin enjoyed playing hard: climbing trees, biking with the neighborhood kids, playing epic rounds of hide-and-seek, and days-long binges on the Nintendo with her twin.
Cristin's love of camping and traveling started in early childhood. Her family camped several times a year, mostly in the desert at Picacho State Park, in the Sierra Mountains at Dinkey Creek, or locally at the La Jolla Indian Reservation. Cristin absolutely loved and appreciated having such a bonded family. Aside from camping, she road tripped to many family reunions in Idaho and across the entire USA with her grandmothers.
Cristin moved up to North County shortly after high school, spending her 20s there "finding herself" by working hard at The Welk Resort, studying at Palomar College, and forging life-long friendships. Forever the Southbay girl, she moved back down to Chula Vista in 2010.
Cristin met the love of her life at Gossip Grill on Labor Day weekend 2011; a month and a half later they were inseparable. Through life’s ups and downs, Cristin and Rosy found ways to enjoy food and drink festivals, camping, travel, museums, cartoons, and most of all each other. Home was wherever they were together.
She graduated valedictorian from PIMA Medical Institute, class of 2016. Cristin loved to road trip and thus drove her family to Augusta, ME where she began her career as a Respiratory Therapist. After nearly 5 years of leaf peeping, hiking, snow shoveling, moose sighting, and lobster eating it was time to move back to San Diego.
At the height of the pandemic Cristin threw herself into her work and quickly bonded with her new coworkers at Scripps Chula Vista, UCSD, and Alvarado Hospital. She was often referred to as a walking encyclopedia, her wealth of knowledge and willingness to help and teach others quickly propelled her career to Charge Respiratory Care Practitioner. Off the clock, many a night was spent sharing delicious Korean BBQ and singing karaoke with her Scripps family.
Cristin and Rosy wed in October of 2023. Together they made the best of what limited time Cristin had left on this Earth. She had a gift and spirit that touched everyone she met. Cristin is eternally loved and will be missed by her family, countless friends, and all who had the joy in meeting her.
