Born on August 4, 1930, Domingo Ortiz (known as “Negro” by his loved ones) was one of seven children and a father of four. Working soon after he left the 5th grade, Domingo held many positions but his favorite was working for Southern Pacific Railroad.
His interests included reading medical and historical books, cooking a hearty meal, and fixing and reselling appliances. He would often go for walks to wander his neighborhood and visit “los viejitos,” as he would call the senior home, to eat meals with his friends. When he wasn't eating healthy, he gave into his sweet tooth or his weakness for burgers, fries, menudo and tacos.
He also enjoyed traveling with family to San Felipe, Mazatlán, San Francisco, La Rumorosa, Mexicali and El Hongo; his vacation home.
We will miss his peculiarities, which included how he greeted someone with “Ep!” instead of hello, how he only owned Chihuahuas and always named them “Chiquilín,” how he’d cut the sleeves off of his sweatshirts, and how he almost always owned a yellow Volkswagen Beetle.
Domingo is survived by his wife of 63 years, Lucila Rivera Oritz; two older sisters, Alicia and Chayo; his four children, Sergio, Dolores, Patricia and Mingo.
