Born on November 14, 1938, in General Trias, Cavite, Philippines, Eddie was the son of the late Florentino Ocampo Iruguin and Emilia Montoya Asistores. A man of quiet dedication and sharp intellect, he devoted 20 honorable years of service to the United States Embassy in the Philippines, a prestigious career that granted him special immigrant status to move to America. Upon his arrival, he continued to work tirelessly for his family, working security at the San Diego Airport before joining NYK Line in Long Beach, where he worked until his retirement.
Eddie lived a full and vibrant life. He was a lifelong traveler who frequently journeyed between the Philippines and United States to maintain his U.S. citizenship. Wherever he was, he always made sure to spend quality time with his family. Eddie was a passionate outdoorsman and musician. He found peace in fishing and immense joy in tending to his gardens of fresh fruits and vegetables. He was an avid music lover, he frequently played both the piano and trumpet, and possessed a lifelong appreciation for live music. He enjoyed staying active with long outdoor walks and jogs with the Centennial Jogger Group back in the Philippines. Eddie thoroughly enjoyed exploring diverse foods and cooking homecooked meals for his family.
Following a stroke in October 2021, Eddie relocated permanently to California in 2022 to be closer to his family. In his final years, he resided at Stellar Care Memory Home, where his warm spirit made him well-known and deeply cherished by the staff and fellow residents.
Eddie’s greatest pride and joy was the beautiful family and legacy he built.
