

Gertrudis Eugenia Hernandez was born on November 15, 1927 in Tornillo Texas. She was the second daughter of Aurelio and Eduvigis Hernandez. She was raised in Fabens and Clint, Texas along with her three sisters; Ramona, Lupe and Jesus (Jessie). Gertrudis, had a special bond with her sisters, whom she loved deeply. Whenever they were together they were joyful and giggly like young school-girls.
Gertrudis, married Anacleto “Cleto” Rodriguez on April 28, 1944. Their love story lasted for 60 years until his death on September 17, 2004.
She was a devoted mother of four daughters, Martina Rodriguez Nieto, Gloria Rodriguez Fishkin, Alicia Rodriguez Vela and Manuela Rodriguez Cafferty.
Gertrudis, also known as “Welita” loved her 14 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren. She had a great sense of humor and was always willing to do silly poses with her grandchildren.
“Welita”, was a meticulous homemaker; she enjoyed visiting with family and friends, cooking, sewing, embroidery and crocheting. For those who knew her best... they would agree her beans, chili con carne and homemade flour tortillas were deliciously amazing. It was not unusual for neighborhood children to ask her for a hot fresh homemade tortilla.
Gertrudis,”Welita “embraced all visitors and always welcomed them into her home. She will be remembered for her unwavering love of family, her kindness and generosity.
