Guadalupe Ulanimo Surio

From an early age, she dreamed of becoming a dedicated, compassionate, and knowledgeable nurse. She fulfilled that dream through a successful nursing career, serving at Edmonton General Hospital in Canada and later at Scripps Mercy Hospital in San Diego. Her commitment to caring for others was not simply a career—it was a reflection of the person she was.

Family was at the center of her life. One of her proudest accomplishments was successfully petitioning for her mother and two sisters to come to the United States, creating precious opportunities for her family to be together.

She was also a person who gave generously of herself to her community. Among her many accomplishments, she served as a President of COMMAVSURFGRU, served at the Marine Barracks, and was a leader at the Catholic Chapel Council at NAS Lemoore. She was honored with a Phil-Américan Leadership Award in 1979 and a Convention & Exposition Leadership Award in 1998.

Beyond her professional and community accomplishments, she will be remembered most for the joy she brought into the lives of those around her. She loved singing, dancing, gardening, and chatting with friends. She treasured the laughter that came from inside jokes with close friends and reminiscing about old family stories. Some of her happiest moments were spent mingling with friends and loved ones at celebrations.

Her favorite colors were red and green, a small reflection of the personality and preferences that made her uniquely herself.

Those who knew her will remember her as friendly, cheerful, humorous, altruistic, charitable, and social—someone who made people feel welcomed and valued.

Her life was one of service, friendship, laughter, and love. Her legacy will live on through the family she brought together, the people she cared for, the friends she cherished, and the many lives she touched along the way.

She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever cherished.
