Harvey was born on May 13th in Tijuana, Mexico, to Harvey Cantwell Sr. and Maria Camarena. He grew up in National City with his younger brother Leaf and his father, Harvey. It was there that he met and later married the love of his life, Mariza Cantwell, in 1993. Together they built a life rooted in love, loyalty, and devotion to family.
Harvey had a long and distinguished career as a plasterer, earning respect for his strong work ethic and dedication to providing for those he loved. He was known for his short temper, his unforgettable sense of humor, and his deep passion for football. He loved cheering on the Chargers and the San Diego Padres, rarely missing a game and always supporting his teams with pride. Music was always playing somewhere nearby, and he enjoyed turning it up and singing along. But more than anything, he treasured spending quality time with his family. Harvey’s life revolved around the well-being of his family.
Growing up in an unstable environment, he made a promise that the family he raised would never experience the same hardships. He kept that promise. He showed up. He protected. He provided. Being a father was Harvey’s true calling, and he fulfilled that role with unwavering love and strength. His children always knew they were safe, supported, and deeply loved.
He had a remarkable ability to make people laugh. Whether through perfectly timed jokes, playful teasing, or simply his presence, he could lighten any room. His laughter was contagious and will echo in the hearts of those who knew him.
Harvey was also our real-life GPS — somehow always knowing how to get anywhere without directions, confidently guiding the way. In many ways, that’s exactly who he was in life: steady, dependable, and leading his family forward.
Above all, Harvey was a man of God. His faith shaped the way he loved and led, and it brings comfort to know that the same faith now carries him home.
Harvey Cantwell is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 40 years, Mariza Cantwell; his children, Chelsea and Justin Cantwell and the family pet he learned to love, Sammie. His legacy of love, strength, humor, and faith will live on through them forever.
