Born January 25, 1951- Ivey was the eldest child of parents Ivy Sr. and Eloise Henderson. He would become big brother to siblings Peggy, Drucilla, Leroy, Arleatha, and Ellen.
Ivey attended and graduation from Port St. Joe Jr-Sr High School in the class of 1969. Ivey was also musically inclined and learned play a variety of instruments; including the Tuba- which he played in the Marching Band at PSJ Jr-Sr High School Band.
Immediately after graduating high school, he proudly joined the United States Navy at age 17. He soon returned to Port St. Joe and married, and became the Father of Ivey Lamar Henderson, III.
Ivey and his sister Peggy shared an incredibly special relationship as the eldest son and daughter both endeavoring to set a good example for their siblings to follow.
Growing up Ivey also learned how to work alongside his father Ivy Sr. who taught him great life skills and the importance of providing for the family. Ivey held a great fascination for gadgets and engineering-one of those fascinations he found so compelling lead Ivey to purchase the 1st color television as a gift for his siblings.
His adventures took him to Norfolk VA for his basic training and not long after to Chicago IL for specialized training followed by being stationed aboard several different Navy Ship which would take him around the world to many countries including the Philippines where he met and married his wife of 52 years Vivian, to their union Eric and Jennifer were born.
From the 1969 to 1989, Ivey was stations in CA to Pascagoula MS and back to San Diego CA where he retired as Chief in engineering serving 20 years in the United States Navy.
Though Ivey retired, his sense of wonder and curiosity never ceased- If he took on a hobby- he knew and researched everything about that hobby- some of those included sewing/dressmaking, investing/stock market, astronomy, beer/winemaking & bottling, numerology *cycling, genealogy, tax preparation
Cycling became a passion that took Ivey and his family to Paris France to participate in the long-distance cycling event known as Paris Brest Paris.
And while being a tax preparation expert- Ivey enjoyed getting to know people and their history, one person at a time and completing the task while serving each client with dignity and respect.
Perhaps, one of Ivey greatest passions was the relationships he maintained with his family. He was strongly bound by love for not only his immediate family, but also to his aunts, uncles, cousins, siblings, and dear friends.
This is who Ivey was, every one that knew him recognized him by his whistling, walking, or talking, when you met him, he was always in a positive state of mind, always deep in thought. He was always willing to teach you what he knew. He never liked saying goodbye, but what he would say is “until next time.”
He leaves to mourn his legacy his wife, Vivian; his sons, Ivey Lamar, and Eric; and his daughter, Jennifer. We are also lifting up his grandchildren, Dylon, Sapphira, Ivey Christina, and King. He also leaves his siblings, Drucilla, Leroy, Arleatha, and Ellen.
Uncles and Aunts: David James, Samuel James, Joe Nathan James. Queen Thompson, Katie and John Vickers, Cleo Workcuff. He leaves indelible memories with his nephews, nieces, and a host of cousins who celebrate his legacy.
He will be cherished in memories forever as a husband, father, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend to many and will be deeply missed.
