With heavy hearts and deep gratitude for a beautiful life of our beloved mother Nenita Obtera Oropesa, who peacefully entered eternal rest at the age of 91.
Born in Noveleta, Cavite, Philippines, Nenita lived a life rooted in faith, kindness, resiliency, and unconditional love. She devoted her life to her family and touched countless lives through her gentle spirit, wisdom, generosity, and prayers.
Nenita was the eldest daughter of Dominador & Encarnacion Obtera. She was survived by her siblings: Corazon Obtera Cruz, Francisco Obtera and Carina Obtera Small. Her siblings who passed before her: Emmanuel Obtera, Jorge Obtera and Alfredo Obtera.
Nenita was a devoted Navy wife, married for 55 years to the late John R.R. Oropesa, and survived by her children: Ramon O. Oropesa, Christina Jackson-Wilkinson and Joel Obtera Oropesa. Grandchildren: Victoria, Phillip, Gregory, Davis, Casey, John (JT), Jessica, Samantha, and was a great-grandmother to Olivia.
In 1973, after discovering how popular Nenita’s lumpia was when brought to the officers’ club in MCAS El Toro, CA, her husband John decided to create their lumpia business. Family Loompya eventually became the first lumpia brand to achieve nationwide distribution through the U.S. commissaries. With their San Diego retail markets and lumpia factory, they provided many immigrant families with their very first jobs.
In her 50’s, she was once California’s senior women’s bowling champion, but mostly she was the heart of her family — a woman whose home was always filled with warmth, laughter, delicious meals, and loving guidance. Her unwavering faith in God carried her through every season of life and became an inspiration to all who knew her.
Though our hearts ache in her absence, we find comfort knowing she is reunited with her beloved John and all her loved ones who went before her and resting peacefully in the presence of the Lord. She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and always remembered.
