Rachel Eddleman, 87, of Spring Valley, CA, passed away peacefully in her sleep on January 13, 2021. She was the last family member of her generation. Rachel was born March 31, 1933 in Raymondville, TX to Joseph and Sarah Helton. In 1948 she married Eugene Eddleman, together they raised 5 children.
Rachel was a Christian and lived her life by a strong moral code. She was resilient and warmhearted. As a young woman, Rachel chose to quit high school and get married. However, she had always wanted to get her high school diploma, so after her children were raised, she went back to school. At the age of 51, she finally fulfilled her desire and earned her diploma. Rachel invested herself in others and had a contagious spirit of adventure. While her kids were growing up, their friends or cousins were often included in her escapades. She continued her fun-loving spirit throughout her life. On a road trip, at the age of 82, she was still stopping at and wading in any stream or lake she could get to.
Rachel had many interests; traveling, enjoying nature (waterfalls in particular), socializing, painting, cooking (she made the best cinnamon rolls), genealogy. Well known for her hospitality, her home was a gathering place. She made people feel welcome. Her family was her greatest treasure, and she often said that her grandchildren kept her young.
Rachel is survived by her daughters Sarah Eddleman and Sande Jipp, her son Joe Eddleman, 9 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, as well as countless nieces and nephews. Rachel is predeceased by her husband Eugene Eddleman, sons Ben and Clyde Eddleman, and grandsons Jared Hagar and Ben Eddleman Jr.
Some lives touch others for good. Rachel’s was an example of that, and an inspiration for many of us. Hers was a life well lived.
Services will be officiated by Rachel’s niece, Judy Helton. Immediate family members that will be attending are; Sarah, Joe, and Athena Eddleman, Kevin, Danise, Kayla, Kirsten, and Travis Kulhanek, Donald and Joseph Eddy.
