Ruben was a truly great man. His smiling face and wealth of knowledge will be missed at San Diego Youth Services. Ruben always had a kind word to say and was always willing to take the time to check on his co-workers. It was a great honor to work with him. Until we meet again, Ruben...

When I was a boy you taught me about Lowriders, how to put up my dukes to defend myself, and how to talk to the ladies.
When I became a man, you taught be about taking a self-inventory, self-accountability, and to always keep it real with others.
I cherish our memories together. What I will miss about you the most is how you always made me laugh. You always had me rolling with laughter to the point my stomach would hurt. My favorite memories of us together were when you worked at the car lot and you would take me to get Oreo Shakes from Jack in the Box in your Chevy El Camino, bumping Aztec Tribe and listening to Oldies.
It hurts so much to miss you, but I know I'll see you soon enough on the other side.
You've always been so ruff so tuff so I could never tell you before, but I will tell you now. I love you Tio. I love you.

I was the teacher at YDC. Ruben was an amazing counselor. He maintained great relationships with the children, and staff he worked with. I really respected his talent of being able to relate to my students. Being able to share the stories of his past, and how his life changed to become the successful man he became. He will be missed.

So sorry for your family's loss. I worked with Ruben while he was at YDC and he fit in seamlessly with the rest of the crew. He had a great attitude with the kids and genuinely cared about their well-being...all while still being true to himself and his roots. I will miss his jokes, smile, and laugh. RIP Ruben. You were truly one of a kind.
