Today, we gather with heavy hearts, but also with deep gratitude, to honor the life of a man who was truly one of a kind, Victor Everardo Díaz, also known as Oso, osito. A father, a husband, a grandfather, a friend, a man of faith, and a gentle soul whose presence could change the entire room.
To know Victor was to know kindness, humor, and a quiet strength that never needed to be announced. He was funny, hardworking, spiritual, gentle, and full of life. He had a way of being soft-spoken one moment and loud the next, especially when he was cheering for us, protecting us, or telling one of his silly jokes just to make us smile. And somehow, that joke always landed because it came from him.
Victor loved deeply. He loved his family with a devotion that you could feel in every hug, every conversation, every piece of advice, and every time he offered his shoulder when we didn’t know where else to turn. He loved Jesus, and he lived his faith not by words alone, but through the way he treated people with compassion, generosity, and a heart that was always open.
And of course, he loved his horse Joe, who was more than just a companion he was part of my dad’s peaceful world, part of the way he connected with God through nature and simplicity.
One of the greatest lessons Victor taught me was this:
“La vida es bella… and what is meant to be, is meant to be.”
He said it simply, but it held a truth that guided the way he lived trusting God, trusting life, trusting that everything had purpose.
Victor gave us a lifetime of moments that still make us smile, laugh, or cry, moments where he tried, in his gentle way, to brighten our day. Even now, remembering him brings warmth, because that is who he was: warmth in human form.
What people loved most about him was his giving heart, his silly humor, and the way he made everyone feel seen and cared for. He had this beautiful ability to show up with love, with guidance, or with silence when that’s what we needed. And that is something we will miss forever.
But even in our grief, we hold on to God’s promise. We know Victor is home now. We know he is with the Lord he loved so much. We know he is at peace, embraced by Heaven, surrounded by light maybe even riding alongside angels.
Matthew 5:4 says, “Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.”
And today, we ask God for that comfort, the comfort of knowing that my dad’s spirit is alive, joyful, and finally resting in the presence of Jesus.
Dad, Pá, Oso, thank you.
Thank you for your love, your lessons, your laughter, and your life. Thank you for being our protector, our joy, and our constant reminder that life is beautiful.
We will carry you with us forever.
And though our hearts are broken, we trust that we will see you again whole, happy, and shining in God’s glory.
Descansa en paz, papá. Te amamos para siempre
