It is with great sadness that we announce the loss of our beloved Anna Serino on January 1, 2022, at the age of 87. With family at her side at the Seven Oaks Hospital, she passed peacefully after showing great bravery and strength in her battle against heart disease.
Our Mother, Nonna, and Grand-Nonna will be lovingly remembered by her children Maria Di Bartolo (Angelo), Josie Tinkler (Brett), Nick Serino (Sherri) and Vito Serino (Gwenda) along with her grandchildren Jason Di Bartolo (Tara), Anthony Di Bartolo (Jen), Colin Tinkler, Anastasia Tinkler (Jason), Adam Serino (Natasha) and her four great-grandchildren Kenadie, Ryder, Bentley and Aston.
She is also survived by her sister-in-laws Maria, Beatrice (Romualdo), Anna, Lina (Michele) and Angela, her brother-in-law, Vito Serini (Teresa), and many nieces and nephews.
Mom was predeceased by the love of her life, her husband Francesco Serino, her parents Vito and Maria Florio and all her siblings: Tommaso, Lina, Sigismondo, Marco, Cecilia and Giuseppe.
Mom was born on January 13, 1934, in Palo Del Colle, Bari, Italy. Our mother, being a multi-talented young woman, convinced her parents to send her to the local School of Fashion Design at which she excelled. She met our father and they married in 1960. Because of mom’s exceptional sewing skills, the family was recruited to immigrate to Canada in 1967. It was in Winnipeg’s garment industry where Mom worked her way up to becoming a shift supervisor, then transitioning to owning her own tailor shop where she was renown for her exceptional work until she retired
On arriving in Canada with 2 suitcases and 2 little girls, mom worked hard alongside our father to build our future. It was in Canada that they completed their family with the births of their two sons, Nick and Vito.
Mom loved life. Her house was always open to friends and family. She was an exceptional cook and we all have fond memories of delicious Sunday dinners and family gatherings. She loved spending time in her beautiful garden, travelling, going on road trips, dancing, and her Red Hat Ladies Social Club.
Mom was always eager for a new adventure and trying new things. She lived life to the fullest with love in her heart and a dance in her step.
A funeral service conducted by Father Sam will be held on Thursday, January 13 at 2:00pm, at Green Acres Funeral Home and Cemetery, Highway #1 East at Navin Road, Winnipeg, Manitoba. Due to current restrictions, attendance is by invitation, and proof of vaccination will be required.
