On Saturday, May 2, 2026, Anne died peacefully at Middlechurch Home of Winnipeg, surrounded by family. She was 97 years old.
Anne will be lovingly remembered by her children, Chris Chubaty-Ring, Ron Chubaty, and Randy Chubaty (Starla); her grandchildren, Christy Ring (Dave Snell), Caitlin Ring (Lindsey Panteluk), Alex Chubaty, Amanda Chubaty, and Alyssa Laszlo (Craig Sgambellone). She will also be fondly remembered by her sisters, Mary Kyrzyk and Olga Harasymchuk, brother, John Oryschak (Elizabeth), and brother-in-law, Eugene Kyrzyk. Anne was predeceased by her husband, Matt, in l999, her daughter, Cathy Laszlo, in 2017, and son-in-laws, Ken Laszlo, in 2021, and Chuck Ring, in 2022. The loss of her golden retriever, Emma, and her Persian cats, Mischka and Bear, also saddened her greatly.
Anne was born on August 27, 1928, in Vita, Manitoba to William and Mary Oryschak. She married Matt on November 13, 1948 and they resided in Stuartburn, Manitoba until they moved to Winnipeg in 1960 with their young family. Anne devoted her entire life to her family and gave freely of her talents, whether it was cooking, baking, sewing, crafting, gardening or just adding a little creative twist to a school project someone was working on. After Matt retired in 1990, they purchased a “fifth wheel” and fulfilled a dream, travelling across most of Canada and to Alaska, Florida, Texas, California, Arizona and to Mexico. However, the winters spent in Yuma and the summers at Lake Manitoba Narrows were Anne’s favourite.
Anne was a member of St. Anne Ukrainian Catholic Church. She was also involved with the Ukrainian Catholic Women’s League and, for many years, was a perogy volunteer. She enjoyed playing card games every Thursday morning with the seniors’ group that met at the church. Anne was an avid Blue Jays fan and never missed a game. She also loved to watch both men’s and women’s curling on TV. She kept on knitting, crocheting and coloring in her coloring books for as long as she could. Unfortunately, her lack of mobility forced her to forego many of the things she loved and, in February 2025, Anne was transitioned from her North Kildonan home, where she had lived for 65 years, to Middlechurch Home.
The family wish to thank all the medical and health care staff, particularly those on the second floor at Middlechurch Home, for the care and kindness shown, not only to Anne during her stay, but to her family who visited daily.
The family would also like to thank the special group of women from St. Anne’s Church who brightened Anne’s days with their visits and conversation. Last, but not least, the family want to thank Fr. Yaroslav Buduykevych from the bottom of their hearts for attending to Anne’s spiritual needs. This mattered so much to her.
The funeral service for Anne will be held at St Anne Ukrainian Catholic Church, 35 Marcie Street in Winnipeg, Manitoba on Tuesday, May 19, 2026 at 12:30 noon.
Officiating: Fr. Yaroslav Buduykevych
