It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our wife, mother, grandma, mama, nana, aunt, sister and friend to all, Bernice Jane Pelletier, on Saturday, March 14, 2015, at the St. Boniface Hospital.
Left to forever cherish her memory are her husband of almost 61 years, John, daughters Maureen Watt (Derek), Elaine Pelletier (Tom Czyczko), Patti Cherney (John) and Lynn Valde (Peter); grandchildren Cian (Bonnie), Shannon, Shaman (Cora), Lila, Kyzyl, Skye, Kieran and Dayna. She also leaves to mourn her brothers John Senez (Leona) and Roly Senez, brother-in-law Lorne Kozdial as well as numerous sisters and brothers-in-laws, nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents Napoleon and Alice Senez (Mondor), sisters Gert Flett (Donald) and Alice Kozdial; brother Jim Senez (Lucille), sister-in-law Simone Senez and nieces Dorothy and Claire.
Bernice was born on August 15, 1930 in St. Boniface, MB. She attended St. Joseph’s Academy and then began her career with The Royal Bank of Canada, Main Branch Winnipeg. After her marriage to John on April 24, 1954, she stayed home to raise their four daughters, ultimately settling in Windsor Park in 1959. In 1970 she returned to the Royal Bank Provencher and Langevin Branch where she had many happy years, retiring from the bank in 1993.
During the early family years, Bernice began her tenpin career at Allstar Lanes, moving to Chateau Lanes and then Club LaVerendrye Bowling in 1970. An avid bowler, she participated in many tournaments both locally and internationally. In 1980, she won the 600 Club tournament in Seattle, WA, and to this day her silver cup has a place of honour in the home. Her love of bowling flourished while volunteering as a junior coach, which encouraged her two youngest daughters to start tenpin bowling. Bernice, John and the girls spent many wonderful years travelling and bowling in numerous exciting tournaments across Canada and the USA. In 2014 Bernice and John were recognized as Canada’s Oldest Active Bowling Couple, a nod to their lifelong passion for the sport. Never one to seek the limelight, Bernice was thrilled with this award! Mom was actively bowling twice a week up until her untimely passing. She will be missed by the many good friends she has made through tenpin bowling.
In addition to bowling, Bernice and John loved bingo at Club Regent Casino. They formed many friendships with both the staff and patrons over the years, and she will be missed by all.
Bernice was a devoted loving wife, mother and grandmother. Her family was everything to her, especially her grandchildren. She rejoiced in the arrival of every child, spoiling each one and making heirloom quality hand-crochet booties and clothing which will be treasured forever. Her crochet doilies and Christmas ornaments are works of art valued by those who are fortunate enough to have received one. Christmas just won’t be the same without Bernice’s French Canadian Toutiere or Russian Taffy!
Our dear, sweet Mom will be sadly missed but never forgotten as we will treasure the memories we shared.
We wish to thank the City of Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service, St. Boniface Hospital ER and Floor 6A South doctors, nurses and staff for their compassion, kindness and attentive care to our Mom.
Please join us at the memorial service and celebration of Bernice’s life on Saturday, March 21, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Green Acres Funeral Home, Highway 1 East at Navin Road.
A private interment will follow at a later date.
