Our mom, Delores Sonya De Filippo Lavallee, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2026, at 12:05 a.m. at the age of 93. She was born on August 5, 1932, in Thunder Bay, Ontario, to Vito De Filippo and Domenica Rosa Catricala. She was the last of her generation and the last surviving member of a family of 16 siblings—a remarkable milestone in a remarkable life.
Mom had an amazing spirit; her love of life and her strength always shone bright. At 17, she played on the first women’s hockey team in Thunder Bay, an achievement she carried with pride her entire life. She loved five-pin bowling, spending years on teams with relatives and friends, and her happiest place was the family cottage, where she played bocce ball, helped stack wood, took long walks, and sang.
A quote she often said was, “I lived my life to the fullest with no regrets!” Even to her last breath, she was still teaching us compassion, strength, and unconditional love.
Mom was predeceased by her daughter Judy Lavallee (May 28, 2017). She is lovingly remembered by her children Debbie (Andrew Rotoff), Curtis (Charlene) Lavallee, Rick Lavallee, and Larry Lavallee, and by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, along with extended family and friends.
We will miss her every day, and so will all who knew her.
