He will be missed by his children Barbara, Barry (Anastasia), Laurene, and grandson Leland. He was predeceased by his wife, Esther (Overland), and his brothers Charles and Kenneth.
Don loved travelling, the stock market, reading, and reminiscing about the good times they had in Flin Flon.
Our parents started out in Flin Flon with Pa working at the Hudson Bay Mining and Smelting (HBMS). There they had their twins - Barbara and Barry. They then moved to Aurora Minnesota so Pa could finish his accreditation. Back to Flin Flon, then Snow Lake where their third child Laurene was born.
From there Pa worked in many minds gathering knowledge and a good reputation in his field. He worked in potash mines- Bredenbury, Lanigan, Saskatoon x2. He didn't like either tar sands - Fort McMurray, Alberta or coal mines – Sparwood, BC.
He knew many people, mostly from Flin Flon, who now worked in international mines. Through them and his reputation he was offered a position in the Dominican Republic and we insisted that we go.
Once the last child had been settled, our parents moved to Honduras but it ended up being too hot both physically and politically. From there Cuajones Peru and worked in the copper mine there for ten years before their grandson was born. He then retired in Winnipeg.
He lived his retirement peacefully with most of his family close by.
Our thanks to the staff of Middle Church Nursing Home for the kind and gentle care he received throughout his stay.
A celebration of his life will be held in the summer.
