Emma will be lovingly remembered by her husband Tony, her children: Paul (Linda), Lilliane (Wayne), Lucille (Bill), Irene (Tim), and Rene (Doris). Her grandchildren: Chris (Karen), Angela (Steve), Jordan, Jessica, Amber (Jeremy), Melanie (Sheldon), Eva (Jordan), Parker (Candace), and her great grandchildren: Zachary, Connor, Kyle, Atlas and Paige.
Emma is also survived by her sisters: Beatrice, Lucy, Lorraine, Angele, and her brother Alphonse (Lucille).
Emma was predeceased by her granddaughter Melanie, her parents Aurore and Lazare; brothers: Arthur, Gerard, Theodore, and her sister Isabelle.
Emma was born in St. Pierre Jolys, December 14, 1926, and raised on farms in Lorette and Ste. Anne, Manitoba. Emma, being the oldest daughter, helped her mother around the farm and house, cooking, cleaning, and raising her younger siblings. At 18 years old, her mother sent Emma to Lorette for a baking course. While there Emma won a blue ribbon for baking the best chocolate cake which was later enjoyed by her family in Ste. Anne. Before meeting her husband Tony, Emma worked in St. Boniface as a nanny and cook in a doctor’s home. She also worked at the Convent of the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary, where she cleaned for the nuns. The convent is now known as Cathédrale Manor, where Emma and Tony lived for years. Talk about going full circle! Emma often pointed out the grand staircase bannisters that she had to continually dust.
Her sister Bea and brother-in-law Johnny introduced Emma and Tony, the love of her life, at a card party in Ste. Anne. The loving couple were married on November 24, 1948, in Ste. Anne and were able to celebrate 75 beautiful years together last November.
Emma and Tony raised five children. Emma did some part time work at Andrews restaurant, on the corner of Marion and Tache, in the evenings, while Tony stayed home to take care of the children. She then worked at St. Boniface Hospital for 10 years in the kitchen. At the hospital, Emma, was offered a higher position but being close to retirement, did not want the responsibility of the job. After leaving the hospital she worked for a brief period at Eaton’s in the grill room. She then decided to retire.
Emma loved to cook and bake. Tony, having a sweet tooth, always had a homemade dessert for after supper. Emma’s sucre-a-crème matrimonial cake was loved by all. Emma was also a good seamstress and would sew dresses and jumpers for her daughters. Even though there was not a lot of money, she always made sure her children were well dressed. Playing cards with family and friends was also a favourite pastime and her love of bingo kept her happy and busy.
Tony took Emma on many trips. They travelled across Canada visiting family and friends while also taking many trips in the States. One trip that was very memorable to Emma was going to Hawaii which was her dream to go to.
Emma always loved and enjoyed being with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She loved sitting, watching, and listening to everyone having a good time.
Emma will be sadly missed by Tony, her family, and friends. She loved living at Cathedral Manor. When they first moved in, she said “living at Cathedral Manor was like being in a little part of heaven before going there”. A big thank you to Rhonda and the staff for looking after Emma.
The family would also like to thank Kildonan Personal Care Home for taking care of our mother the last couple of years.
Cremation has occurred and Emma will be interred beside her grandchild Melanie at Green Acres Cemetery. A celebration of Emma’s life will be held at Green Acres Funeral Home on Monday, September 16th at 2:00 PM.
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee, blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
A Beautiful Life, that came to an end, she died as she lived, everyone's friend.
In our Hearts, a memory will always be kept, one we loved, and will never forget.
