Frank was born on February 26, 1934 to Frank and Sarah Mckendry. He attended Cecil Rhodes School from grade one through nine and St. Johns Tech. and Tech Voc. High Schools, graduating in June, 1952. After graduating, Frank joined the RCAF where he trained as a ground radar technician. He served at the RCAF Station, Edgar Ontario where he met his wife, Ruby Osmond, a beautiful and fascinating Newfoundlander. They married in August, 1956 and had 2 girls - Leslie in 1958 and Tracy in 1960.
Frank believed that if you take something out of life you should at least try to put something back in. In 1959, He joined the Transcona Kinsmen and the Transcona Curling Club. He served on the curling club board of directors for four years. Job pressures precluded any further involvement until 1970 when he became one of the founding members of the Jessica Lake Sailing Club. His love of sailing and need to serve led to him being elected Vice President and eventually President of the Manitoba Sailing Association. He also served as Vice President of the Canadian Yachting Association.
Frank lay low for a while until, in 1986, after 30 years of work with a very large computer company, he retired. He then searched for other opportunities to volunteer and joined the Manitoba Liberal Party, serving in too many positions to mention. Frank was proud to have been elected chairman of the party’s provincial council in 2002 and re-elected in 2003. In recognition of his service, he was made a life member of the Manitoba Liberal Party in 2004. He then retired for good and settled down with his corn patch in South Transcona where he enjoyed the company of his many friends at his annual corn roasts and Canada Day barbecues.
Frank’s family would like to thank the staff on 5A in the cardiology unit at St. Boniface Hospital for their patient and compassionate care.
The service will be held on Monday, March 23, 2015, 10:00 a.m. at Green Acres Funeral Home. A reception will follow at the Transcona Legion Branch #7, 117 Regent Avenue East. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Transcona Legion Branch #7.
