Peacefully we announce the passing of Geraldine Rymarchuk on December 1, 2025 at Middlechurch Home of Winnipeg at the age of 93 years.
Geraldine (Gerry) will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered in her passing by her surviving family; daughter Debby (Glenn) Johnson, daughter-in-law Ursula Rymarchuk, and son-in-law Garth Hosegood; grandchildren Jeremiah (Jackie) Johnson, Andrew Johnson, John Rymarchuk, Kyle (Courtney) Rymarchuk, Alana (Nathan) Maertins, Lea (Devon) Borus, and Evan (Sam) Hosegood; and great-grandchildren Calleigh and Sarina Johnson, Olive and Emerson Rymarchuk, Isla and Clara Maertins, Colton and Rylee Hosegood. Geraldine will also be missed by her brothers and sisters: Melvin Schneider, Genevieve Dunnigan, Jean Arsenault, and Irvin Schneider.
Geraldine is predeceased by her husband Joseph Rymarchuk, son Robert Rymarchuk, daughter Karen Hosegood, brothers Leander, Donnie and Joe Schneider, and sister Bernice Hank.
Geraldine and twin sister Genevieve were born to John and Susanne (Zimmer) Schneider on the 3rd of January in 1932 in Daysland, Alberta. They were either the 3rd or 4th of 9 siblings (depending on which twin you asked)!
In 1951, Geraldine joined the Royal Canadian Armed Forces and went East. She married Joseph Rymarchuk, a soldier, in 1953 and they had three children Robert, Debby and Karen. Joe died suddenly in 1978. Geraldine’s lifelong career was with Sears until she retired from there in 1980.
After retirement, Geraldine moved to Grand Marais, Manitoba where she lived until 2005 when she then moved into Winnipeg to Gables Court. Becoming a strong and very independent home builder and expander, she focused on improving her woodworking knowledge and put into practice anything to do with woodwork and building. She was continually taking courses through Red River Community College to help improve this knowledge. She did not stop at wood and became skilled in ceramics, stain glass, paper toll, quilting, painting, and gardening.
Geraldine enjoyed having her grandchildren out on summer holidays and would always have a project to accomplish in addition to trips to the beach, endless card games, and adventures in her red truck. She also enjoyed her time travelling west via bus or train to visit her family in Winfield, BC.
Community involvement was a strong calling for Geraldine in Grand Marais, and she took that strength with her when she moved to Winnipeg. Geraldine was heavily involved with the Blessed Sacrament Parish in Transcona and was a dedicated member of the choir. She also volunteered for years at Park Manor Home assisting staff with the elderly residents. Geraldine was involved in Transcona Community Gardens with Debby and Glenn from 2007 to its close in 2017, making a huge impact by assisting new gardeners in learning how to get a productive garden established.
A stroke in 2018 started to sideline her from her passion of gardening, quilting, and crafting which eventually led her to residing at Middlechurch Home of Winnipeg.
Geraldine was the cornerstone of the family for the Rymarchuks, Johnsons, and Hosegoods. We will miss her conversations, teachings, and immense and never-ending love.
