July 3, 1916 – December 4, 2019
Peacefully, with family at her side, Germaine passed away at the age of 103.
Leaving to mourn her passing are her children Rose-Marie Olafson (August), Charles, Michel (Gail); one brother Chris Laporte; 9 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased in 1997 by her beloved husband of 51 years, Albert; her parents Louis and Germaine Laporte; sisters: Yvonne Rouire, Suzanne Augert, Marie Chanel and by one infant sister Odette.
Germaine was born in Somerset, MB. She later moved to Winnipeg and worked at the St. Boniface Hospital. In 1946, she married Albert Roy in St. Norbert, where they established their home, embracing the community and raising their family, including several foster children, many who remained close to her. She worked for several years at St. Norbert Co-op. Generous, caring, and deeply devoted to her faith, she was a role model to many, helping and praying for everyone who needed some help with life’s challenges. She was an active volunteer, especially in the Catholic Women’s League and the St. Norbert Parish.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the wonderful staff at the St. Norbert Personal Care Home who provided exceptional care to Germaine over the last 3 years.
She will be deeply missed by the many whose lives she touched.
Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday December 13 at St. Norbert Roman Catholic Church, 80 Rue St. Pierre Street, Winnipeg. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
