It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Jacqueline Helen Catherine Schendel (WAKON) on Thursday, June 19, 2025, surrounded by her four daughters at Middlechurch Home.
Jacqueline was born in Winnipeg on February 25, 1940, daughter of Andrew and Helen Wakon. She moved to Windsor, Ontario where she lived her early childhood days with her loving parents and relatives.
After her parents passing, as a young child, she lived in Windsor, Toronto and eventually moved back to Winnipeg. She met her husband Harry and married in 1959 and celebrated 61 years of marriage. They purchased a home in Transcona where they raised their four daughters.
Left to honour and cherish her memory are her daughters Laura (Garry), Terry (Ed), Wendy (Ken) and Lee-Anne. She is also survived by grandchildren Jacqueline (Matt), Chloe (Tyler), Haylee, Conor, Natalie and Nicholas and great-grandchildren Isabelle, Kane, Ellie and Lucas. Also, survived by her are many loving relatives in Windsor, Ontario. Jacqueline was predeceased by her husband Harry and parents Andrew and Helen Wakon and many loving relatives in Windsor, Ontario.
Jacqueline had various employment including Great West life as a clerk and worked her way up as a Group Department supervisor. She worked temporarily at the Post Office and hospital. She worked at Winnipeg Taxation Centre as a clerk for 16 years until her retirement in 1996.
Mom loved her family and held them dear to her heart, she committed her life to her children. Her Catholic faith and beliefs were important to her and kept her strong and centered. She loved listening to a diverse genre of music, cake decorating, knitting and crocheting and spending time at her cottage.
She always had her home open with homemade meals and baked goods ready for her family and visitors. She especially enjoyed her coffee visits with many close neighbours, talking all about their kids. Fond memories and laughter will remain forever in our hearts. Mom had a generous nature and when growing up took our close friends under her wings, like they were her own kids.
Mom we love you, we will miss you and will live by your legacy with kindness, thoughtfulness and love. We thank you for filling all our hearts with your love and guidance.
The family would like to acknowledge and thank the amazing staff of Middlechurch Home for their unwavering love and care for mom. Her spicy nature, right to the end of caring for her, kept them busy but not without many moments of laughter. That was mom. We would also like to thank (Priest) Father Kelly Wilson of St.Theresa for the anointing of mom before her passing.
A private celebration will take place in honour of our loving mom and grandmother.
