It is with great sadness that we announce John’s passing on January 9, 2026, at Riverview Health Centre.
John was born in Montreal, the third of five children. He was a kind-hearted person, known for his warm spirit and sense of humour.
John was deeply loved and will be missed by his dear wife Claudette (Lacasse), his sisters Madeleine Cerveaux and Françoise Dion, and the entire Lacasse family.
At 19 years of age, John joined the Canadian Armed Forces. He was always proud of his posting in Cyprus working alongside the Blue Berets. During a subsequent posting in Churchill, he met his wife Claudette, and they married in July 1963.
After his military service, he dedicated 21 years to teaching Automotive at R.B. Russell Vocational School, where he was highly respected by his students and colleagues. An avid skier, he shared this passion early on by teaching his nephew Christopher and niece Stephanie to ski, taking them on annual trips. His love for teaching and for the sport also led him to found the Alpine Ski Club at his school.
His retirement years were busy with volunteering, traveling, and spending time outdoors.
A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, March 20, 2026, at St. Boniface Cathedral at 10:30 a.m.
Rest in peace, John.
