It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Julie Gyselinck, our beloved Mother and Grandmother, who passed away peacefully in her home at the age of 97 years.
Left to mourn her are her children; Richard (Sherry), Diane (Ward), grandchildren; Jonathan (Azra), Terence, Taylor, Tyler (Christine), Colin (Samantha) and Brett, as well as her great-grandchildren Connor, Brooklyn & Madison.
Julie is pre deceased by her devoted and loving husband of 60 years, Daniel Gyselinck, her eldest daughter Patricia (Jerry) Maertens, and Theo & Helen Bosch.
Julie married her childhood sweetheart Dan in 1949, and together they grew a beautiful life in St.Vital. Working side by side throughout their life, they continued Julie’s family greenhouse business as Riverside Greenhouses. Together they grew countless, beautiful crops of mums, poinsettias, & bedding plants, while raising their family in the business, and instilling in them their values and traditions.
They loved to travel, spending winters in Longboat Key, Florida, and summers at Lake of the Woods where they would annually catch up with their friends, fish, visit the beach, and play cards. Prior to Daniel’s passing, they enjoyed the cruise of a lifetime throughout Europe, to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary.
Julie was an incredible baker and cook, who loved hosting dinners for their family & friends. Baking and decorating birthday cakes and fresh fruit pies every Sunday. If she wasn’t in the greenhouse, you’d more often than not find her in the kitchen baking & cooking up a storm for all to enjoy. It wasn’t often that a pie would make it past Monday lunch time! Julie was truly a remarkable person, who lived a beautiful life. She will be missed dearly by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
The family would like to thank Drake Medox Health Services, and the WRHA palliative care program for all of their care and compassion for Julie & her family throughout her final days.
The family has honoured Julie’s wishes for a private celebration, and she will be interred in Green Acres Cemetery.
