Surrounded by loved ones, Margaret passed away after a long and difficult battle with cancer on September 18, 2023 (age 65). She is survived by her husband Victor Kolynchuk, son Mark Kolynchuk (daughter in-law Melanie Kolynchuk), daughter Allison Kolynchuk and brother Robert Murovec.
Margaret Murovec was born on June 26, 1958 at St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Her father Stan Murovec and mother Sophie Murovec had recently immigrated to Canada from Slovenia. Always quick to learn; her first language was Slovenian, she picked up English after starting primary school and soon caught up with other students. She was an older sister to her brothers Dennis Murovec and Robert Murovec. Her two brothers were twins and they kept her on her toes during her youth. Throughout her life she remained a generous and kind sister to her surviving brother Robert.
Margaret adored and respected her father, who encouraged her to buy a house at the age of twenty-five rather than purchasing a sports car. Her father also instilled in her the importance of having good neighbours, advice which formed part of her core values. Margaret loved her neighbours and relied on them as friends. She would spend hours caring for her garden and chatting with them over the fence.
Socially-oriented and organized, Margaret graduated from Success Business College and developed her career as an executive secretary with the Law Society and at Grace General Hospital, where she provided personal administrative assistance to Pearl McGonigal. It was at Grace General Hospital where Margaret met her husband Victor Kolynchuk. Margaret and Victor were “best pals” and loved travelling together. In 1990 they travelled extensively in Slovenia visiting Margaret’s grandmother and relatives. They looked forward to yearly winter vacations to celebrate their anniversary in the islands of the Caribbean.
Margaret had great love for her children Mark Kolynchuk (born 1992) and Allison Kolynchuk (born 1993). She was a devoted stay-at-home mom during their younger years and instilled within them good work-ethics and a value for education. Once they were established in school, Margaret rejoined the workforce as a supervisor at the Assiniboine Park Zoo Gift Shop, where she remained for fifteen years until her retirement. She found great pride and meaning in giving back to a place where she had enjoyed many visits with her children. Recently, Margaret traveled to her son’s current home in British Columbia to celebrate his marriage to Melanie Kolynchuk. She was anticipating her first grandchild, who awaits to be born in the winter of next year. Margaret always valued her family above all else.
