It is with deep sadness that the family announces the passing of our beloved Mother, grandmother great-grandmother on Saturday, January 17, 2026.
She was born in April, 1937, in Lakeview (Langruth), Manitoba and predeceased by her loving husband, Ronald (Ron) of 49 years and their beloved dog Max. Also, her parents; Helga and Gustave Johnson as well as sister Pauline (Delmar) and brothers Eric (Rose), Wallace (Anne). She is survived by her sons Kenny, Keith (Hilda) and daughters Peggy (Brian), Lynda (Ken), and Kathy (Brent). Brothers Fred and Arnold, sisters Caroline and Sheila. As well as numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Marlene was a humble but happy person who will be remembered for her strength of character, positive attitude, dedicated work ethic and independent spirit. She was always smiling and welcoming to everyone.
Marlene went to the Normandin School near Silver Ridge, she liked going to school, but her love for nature and animals was her main focus until her husband and children came along. She was a very loving and doting mother and grandma and there was nothing she wouldn't do for her family.
Ron and Marlene's dream was to have a farm. And they were finally able to achieve that when Ron took a job with the Manitoba Department of Highways in Alonsa, that allowed him to be home every night. They raised Cattle, Pigs, Chickens, Horses and Geese. They also had grain crops of Wheat and Oats. Marlene loved all things nature, and had a large garden where she grew or tried to grow everything, including fruit trees and raspberries. Farm work in those days was brutally hard, having to haul their own potable water until they could afford to have a well dug. And cutting wood for heating until hydro was brought in, was almost a full time job that they fit in when they weren't taking care of everything else on the farm, but they loved it. After retiring from farming in their 60s, they also operated a greenhouse at Silver Ridge for awhile. They finally "retired" and moved to Portage la Prairie Manitoba in 1991, and continued to have a large garden and flower beds. Mom loved tiger lilies and lady slippers and loved to be outside tending to them. Her pastimes, besides gardening, was playing cards, reading, baking, watching Soaps on TV and fishing with Dad and spending time with family. During all this time their dog max was always by her side until his passing in 2010.
In accordance with her wishes a Memorial Service and cremation will be held on Monday, 2:00 p.m. January 26, 2026, at the Green Acres Funeral Home & Cemetery in Navin (Winnipeg) Manitoba. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mom's memory may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba.
