It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Theodora Gauthier (nee Nabe) who was born on May 7, 1928 in Runnymede, Saskatchewan.
She met her husband, Paul Ernest Gauthier in Atikokan, Ontario and married on October 7, 1950 in Lorette, Manitoba where they settled and built a family legacy before Mary retired in the City of Winnipeg. She was predeceased by her husband, Paul, (1995), daughters Janet (1976), Paulette (2015), Denise (2016) and son Larry (1979), her parents, Jacob & Emilie Nabe, brothers Jacob & Alex Nabe, sisters Emma, Anne, Rosalind and Elsie.
Surviving are sons, Robert, Ralph (Katherine) and daughters Karen (Ross) in Kingston, Ontario, & Anna, (Garry) in Calgary, Alberta, as well as sister Ruth and 14 grandchildren.
Mary lived a proactive and mindful approach to life defined by strength, independence and environmental consciousness. Heading out for walks with Mary, either in the country or City, was not just for pleasure as you could ensure she (and you) would be collecting all littered items noticed to dispose of. She embraced learning, yoga and sustainable living long before they became mainstream. When Mary lived on the family farm she was actively involved in charitable works with the Church as well as a devoted member of the choir. Her gardens (when no longer needed to grow produce) held plentiful displays of flowering plants so that when community members drove by, they slowed the pace to view and appreciate the beauty she created. In her later years she undertook the hobby of painting, spending many hours with friends and in lessons to further her art. A woman of many talents, her life was long but there were never enough hours in the day to achieve all she strove for.
Mary will be missed and remembered with a lasting impact on those who knew her.
Honouring her wishes private prayers to be held later.
