My husband was Noel’s garden neighbour.   For the past 6 years, they worked on their gardens side by side and became friends.  Noel was actually a gardening mentor, and my husband learned  so much from his friend.  He was kind and friendly to everyone in our neighbourhood (Pointe Hébert).  Condolences to his family and to Sandra.   

I met Noel 25 years ago and saw him weekly at my job. Always positive and talkative he always made time to speak to anyone he saw, not once have I seen Noel negative or angry.  His stories were interesting  and a window to how life was for him and it was a pleasure speaking with him as his presence brought smile and laughter to me every time.  Good bye my friend, I will miss you and one day when we meet again we can have another talk and catch up once again.  

Noel and I were neighbours for close to a decade. He could always get a smile from me and was always so helpful if I ever needed help. He was such a kind soul and will be greatly missed by me and so many others.     Terri Srigley

Noel was a kind man of many talents and many stories.  He was  always fascinated with the process and delighted with the results. We still display his carved loon, his stuffed ocelot and his outdoor chimes.  We will miss sharing our Christmas bounty with him on his birthday. And he will be remembered.

Noel

On his retirement from Holy Cross School each student of the school wrote down on a small sheet of paper what it meant to them to have known Noel and it was compiled into a book and given to Noel. The comments made by  the students of Holy Cross School reflected a genuine appreciation and a sincere respect for Noel.   

Noel went on to work for Champlain Community Centre taking care of the building, grounds 
and running the canteen.  Noel enjoyed working with the community of children, youth and adults at Champlain.  

Noel always enjoyed talking with neighbours and other people who would stop to talk with him when he was working outside around his home. 

Noel was a thoughtful, gracious, humble individual; he will be missed by everyone who knew him.  


Noel

Noel grew up on a farm in southwestern Manitoba.  As a young adult following surgery and then after a lengthy rehabilitation  Noel remained in the city. 

He  first lived with a uncle and aunt on Belmont Avenue and worked at Marymound Girls Home along side his uncle completing building maintenance.
 
Noel then worked in the custom picture framing business at a gallery on Hargrave Street and then at a gallery on Selkirk Avenue. When the gallery on Selkirk Avenue closed down Noel became 
self employed working in the home renovation business.  He was very skilled in carpentry, plumbing, electrical and other aspects of home renovations.  Word quickly spread of Noel’s integrity and the quality of his work and there was never a shortage of work for Noel and his crew.  At a later point  his doctor advised him to reduce his work hours;  as it was affecting his health and Noel chose to shut down his home renovation business even though numerous clients sought him out for future home renovation work.

Noel resided at his current residence in St. Boniface for over 50 years and when he retired from being self employed in the home renovation business he went to work as a custodian at Holy Cross School.  Noel enjoyed the contact with the teachers and students of Holy Cross School and conversely the staff and students enjoyed Noels presence. He was actively involved as a member of the Holy Cross School community and well respected by staff and students  for his contributions to the day to day functioning of the school.   

Noel was a crafter as well: making stuffed animal dogs and fridge magnets which he donated to Cancer Care; he also enjoyed wood carving and building furniture. Noel was also a avid gardener and shared vegetables from the garden with his neighbours.
