Rita Alice Marie (Lamirande) Birch

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Rita Birch in the evening of June 20, 2022 at Action Marguerite St. Vital, Winnipeg, in the homeland of her Metis ancestors. She was blessed to be in the presence of loving family members as she prepared and peacefully left this world. She celebrated her 90th birthday on June 13th.

Rita was beloved by many and is mourned by her daughter Darlene Birch (Kerry Murray), Grandchildren Carmen (David), Canaan (Regina), Jesse (Christina), and Isaac (Chelsea), Daughter-in-law Lisa Birch (Wayne) and Grandchildren Nathan (Jackie), Tanis (Tim), and Marshall (Raquel), also Patrice Michelle Caden (John), Grandchildren Rheanna and Laura. Rita was very fond of her great-grandchildren who will miss her presence, and a great-great grandson all of whom she welcomed and kept in her heart over the years. She is lovingly remembered by cousins, nephews and nieces, and dear friends.

Rita was predeceased by her only son Wayne and her former husband Ron, her parents Katherine and Laurence Lamirande, her brothers Emile and Aime, and her sisters Katy and Denise. She was comforted by thoughts of reunion with these and other dear family members and close friends.

Rita will be remembered for her presence as a respectful, honest advisor and support for her family and friends. Growing up, she had a tireless zest for life resulting in her family nickname of “Bubbles”. She leaves behind fond memories of travel, adventure, celebration, and deep conversation. She grew in peacefulness as her life end approached.

A wake has been held to honour Rita. Those who knew and loved her are very welcome to join us at the Church of the Holy Rosary on July 21st 11:00 for a funeral mass and celebration of life, followed by a reception at the church, and interment at St. Vital Cemetery.

Family would like to express their sincere thanks for the understanding care and consideration of the staff at Action Marguerite St. Vital. They so generously accommodated family wishes during Rita’s last days.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Rita’s name to the North End Women’s Center at 394 Selkirk Ave. Winnipeg.
