It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Roméo, who left us peacefully on March 22. Born in Dufresne, Manitoba, he lived a century defined by hard work, dedication and unwavering love for his family.
Papa was predeceased by his beloved wife of 76 years, Thérèse, his parents Joseph and Anne-Marie and siblings Rose, Lucille, Laurette and Edouard.
He is survived by sons Phil (Catherine) and Chuck, and daughters, Louise (Robert), Joanne (Art), Denyse (Don); grandchildren Christian, Shawna, Michelle, Justin, Carl, Erika, Gabriel, Janelle, Camille, Nahanni; great-grandchildren, Charlotte, Mattix, Leo, Austin, Maisyn, Romeo, Ellis, Nixon, Jack, Ben, Thomas.
Papa always demonstrated an unwavering commitment to providing for his family. He began his journey when he joined the Municipality of Taché and became a skilled grader operator, contributing to various road projects that helped shape the town of Lorette. For a brief period during this time, he purchased two milk transfer trucks to supplement his income. In 1967, Papa took on the role of Transportation Supervisor for the Seine River School Division, a position he held with pride until his retirement in 1989. His commitment to public service extended beyond his professional life; for several years he volunteered as a Board Member for the local Caisse Populaire; was on the Board of Trustees, Lorette Centre School District (Chairman in 1960) and on the Board of Trustees for Seine River School Division, showing his passion for community involvement.
While working for the school division, Papa and Maman purchased a parcel of land that became their cherished Cedar Breeze Stable, a small thoroughbred operation and grain farm. After Papa retired, they moved to Fort Garry Place, in Winnipeg, starting a new chapter in their lives. Their love for nature led them to purchase a cottage in Spruce Sands, where many wonderful memories were made, surrounded by family.
Papa was a devoted family man. He cherished every moment spent with his family, imparting wisdom and values, known to many as “the Manaigre way,” that will carry on through future generations. His laughter, stories and kind heart will be missed.
Though he has left this world, his spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Rest in peace, cher Papa. Your love and hard work will never be forgotten.
Maintenant, cher Papa, c’est l’heure du repos bien mérité. Vous avez donné tellement de vous-même tout au long de votre vie que votre travail sur terre est maintenant terminé. Une belle conclusion à une vie pleine d’amour et d’accomplissements.
A special thanks to the staff at the St. Norbert Personal Care Home for all the love and care that Papa and Maman received over the past five years.
In keeping with Papa’s wishes, cremation has taken place and an interment service for both he and Maman will be held at a later date.
