With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Shannon Gaulke (née Hayden) on November 10, 2025, at the age of 58.
Shannon was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, on August 19, 1967, and called Winnipeg home for nearly her entire life, apart from a brief period spent in Thunder Bay, Ontario. Her warmth, generosity, and positive spirit touched countless lives, and she leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and quiet strength.
Shannon is lovingly remembered by her cherished children Taylor and Taryn Gaulke (Jarah), her partner Greg Wahl, her father Trevor Hayden, sister Tammy (Dom) Zagari, and her adored nieces and nephews Zac, Caity, and Sam. She also leaves behind many treasured friends who walked beside her through life’s joys and challenges. Shannon is predeceased by her beloved mother, Arlene Hayden, with whom she is now reunited.
Growing up in the St. Vital area, Shannon attended Hastings School and graduated from Dakota Collegiate in 1985. She went on to study at the University of Manitoba, pursuing a degree in Human Ecology. During her university years, she became a member of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority, an experience she treasured and through which she formed lifelong friendships.
Shannon married in 1993, and together she and Brian Gaulke welcomed two beautiful children, Taylor and Taryn. Motherhood was Shannon’s greatest joy. She devoted herself wholeheartedly to her children, embracing every role—from volunteer, cheerleader, confidante, mentor, and close friend. She truly went above and beyond for her children, showing them unconditional love and support in all aspects of life. She was also one of their biggest fans, especially at their hockey and ringette games, always cheering proudly from the stands. Through her example, she taught her children what it means to love deeply, give generously, and live with purpose. Her commitment to her family extended naturally to her community, where she was known for her kindness, involvement, and willingness to help wherever she was needed.
In 2014, Shannon pursued further education and received her Therapeutic Recreation Facilitator for Older Adults Diploma from Red River College. Shannon worked as a Health and Wellness Coordinator for approximately 5 years. In this position, Shannon created several programs and activities that enriched the lives of the residents and their families.
In 2018, Shannon was blessed to find love again with Greg. Together, they built a life filled with laughter, adventure, and new dreams. Their time at Cherry Hill in Manitoba and, more recently, their extended stay in Gold Canyon, Arizona, brought Shannon deep joy and a renewed sense of possibility.
Shannon’s strength was most evident during her profound medical journey. At birth, she was diagnosed with a Bicuspid Aortic Valve. In July 2019, she underwent a complex heart valve replacement surgery and endured unexpected complications. Her survival was deemed nothing short of miraculous. Thanks to the extraordinary care of the St. Boniface Hospital Cardiac Team, and the unwavering support of her loved ones, Shannon returned home in November 2019 to begin a long and demanding recovery. With characteristic determination, gratitude, and courage, she fought through every day, embracing life’s gifts despite the challenges she faced.
In 2022, Shannon proudly returned to work in the automobile industry, where she spent several fulfilling years before retiring this past spring. She looked forward eagerly to new adventures, and her days were filled with plans, hope, and excitement for the future.
Shannon’s life, though too brief, was beautifully full. She was a devoted mother, a loving partner, a dedicated daughter, a caring sister, and a loyal friend. She had an extraordinary gift for understanding others—truly listening, truly caring, and always knowing just what to say. Deeply spiritual and profoundly genuine, she connected with people in ways that left lasting imprints on their hearts. Shannon always put others before herself, offering comfort, empathy, and love without hesitation.
While her loss leaves an immeasurable void, Shannon’s spirit remains ever-present. We find peace in knowing she is reunited with her mother and watching over her family and friends from her new place of rest. She will forever hold a cherished place in our hearts. We will miss her deeply.
A celebration of Shannon’s life will be held on Thursday, January 8th, at 10 am at Green Acres Funeral Home. As per Shannon’s wishes, it is requested that guests attending the celebration of life wear colour instead of black.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Shannon’s honour to the Canadian Women’s Heart Health Alliance, supporting the vital work that reflects her own journey and strength.
