Simon is also survived by a son from a previous marriage, Ken Versluis (Michelle), grandchildren Vivian and Evan, and numerous nieces and nephews. Simon was close to his niece Sherrie, enjoying their phone calls and many conversations in her store.
He was predeceased by his parents Adriaan and Fenna Versluis, brother Adrian, in-laws Art and Germaine Desautels, and brothers-in-law Peter Sawatzky and Art Fonseca.
Simon was an athlete of various sports in his younger days and an avid cyclist during his healthy years, enjoying many hours with his riding pal Paul. When his health made him give up cycling, he could be seen on his super neat E-bike that looked like a mini motorcycle. He loved to be out in nature and the many trails around Winnipeg afforded him that pleasure. His happiest times were spent at the cottage at Falcon Lake. Here in the city, he loved to be in the gazebo that he built, playing cards and watching sports with Ryan and buddy Jay, and having “deep” discussions with his friend Randy. He loved visiting with people and enjoyed a good laugh.
He was so happy on Thanksgiving Sunday when he was able to have his favourite dinner and also spend time with “the hood” – thanks to Elsie, Jean, Lynne, Alana, Randy, Gary, Tim and Kelli, and Jim and Jacquie for their support and assistance.
Cremation has taken place and according to Simon’s wishes there will be no funeral.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
