I remember Woody, he was always extremely nice to everyone.  I only worked for the SF FBI for about 6 years while I was going to college and I remember him coming into the teletype room to run the computers himself.  I assumed he didn't want to bother anyone for something he could do himself.  There was no ego, he was just a super guy.  We also did a few softball tournaments, great player!  I learned a lot from him that I brought to my special agent career, 27 years with DEA.  Thanks Woody for being a great role model!

One day back in 2012 my sister called me saying,"hey, I ran into your ol' HS boyfriend in Vegas." She was at a Native function when this tall, good-looking Native guy sat down next to her n said, "How you doing Nadine!" What a guy! He still remembered me. After telling him she was Sally, He
reminisced w/her about our HS days. Soon after that Woody became my Facebook friend, then we lost touch. (I now know why.) I never saw him in person after high school but from what I read here that captivating personality of his was shared with all. Woody, you are a forever friend and I will see you on the other side.

So sorry to hear of Woody's passing.  I met Woody while doing Special Agent recruiting out of HQ, and Woody attended many of our career fairs.  RIP Woody....

I was surprised to hear of Woody's passing.  In reading the condolences, someone had mentioned him now being together with Diane, and that also surprised me that she passed so young.
I used to work with Woody at Hecla Copper Mine, south of Casa Grande, Arizona in the mid-70s ('73 thru '77).  I remember we had some good times back then.  Also, great friends with Diane (we both worked at SuperX Drugs at Casa Grande Mall).  Hoping that this finds Shawn and Michael doing well.  Would be nice to get in contact with Diane's sister, Christie (Monica) Martinez (been looking for her for decades)!  RIP, Woody and Diane.

Met him in SF and he was physically and spiritually impressive. What a great smile and welcome nature for an FBI agent. He told me that FBI stood for Fan Belt Inspector-and laughed. He also told me that there were many, many Native American Tribes, all different, and he was a Mohave Indian. I have always remembered that.

My belated but heart felt condolences to the Lewis Clan I just became aware of Woody's passing. He will be truly missed amongst the Native American Community in the Bay Area where he was highly respected and loved. I myself have many fond memories of our escapades at many Basketball and Softball tournaments that we played in through out Northern Ca. and one that included a trip to Arizona. Woody was always full of laughter and joy and to him there was no such thing as a bad day; they're all good, and rest assured Woody is having a good day now. "Enjoy heaven my friend!"

Very shocked to find out about Woody's death.  He was a guy I thought would live forever.  Had fun working with you at FBI in San Francisco and will treasure the photo of you and I in Vegas when I was there for a Forensic conference with the SFPD.  Glad we got to have lunch that day. Just found out and in shock! He was such an amazing man and I loved him with all my heart....the only comfort I have is knowing he's a spirit now looking out for all those who loved and cared about him...peace to him and his family, aho!


I was saddened to hear of Woody's passing. He was a good friend and a great person. I always enjoyed getting to see him and being able to talk to him. Woody's accomplishments and life also always seemed to be extraordinary. Like Tom Sawyer, anything Woody was doing took on a feeling of importance and excitement. I enjoyed kidding around with him and referring to him as "Dad". It helped that he always seemed to give me the keys to his car so I would have some way to get around. 
He was a wonderful man and a great Special Agent. He has gone on far too soon. I will miss him.

I just found out that my dear friend passed. I started to wonder why I had not seen received emails or heard from him. He always included me in his group emails sending  beautiful photos he had taken of the desert and its beauty.  He was my friend and one of the few people who could always make me laugh during tough times or great times.  The last time I heard from him he had emailed about an illness, than said he was better.  Then he emailed about getting married.  I never heard from him again. I am so sad. I offer my condolences to his wife and family. My heart and prayers are with you all.  May God blees you all. Woody, my husband and I worked together in San Francisco. He and my husband played basketball together. I'll always remember his kindness and his great smile. We'll miss him.

It is hard to believe that Woody is gone. I first met Woody at the 1991 NIEA Convention in Omaha, NE. We became friends from the get-go &  remained friends for over 22 yrs. Having much respect for him, I always thought Woody was invincible; he was one of the most gregarious, charming & intelligent men I've known. As an added bonus, he was a gifted story teller-always making us laugh. Woody: my dear friend, thank you for your friendship, fond memories & sharing your warm & fun spirit. Rest in peace. we laughed, we laughed, we laughed, we laughed and we laughed. I appreciated your unconditional friendship - no expectations, no demands, just friends. Every call started with me, "Hey Buckethead," followed by your laugh and then my laugh, then more laughter. When folks realized you were ill, I came to realize how much you meant to so many. The calls, emails and Facebook posts said it all. The day I visited you in hospital was the best - we reminisced and laughed, stories of days gone by and my hopes for days ahead. As I was walking out of your room and glanced over my shoulder, you smiled and nodded. I knew and you knew, but I still hoped. From time to time I will write notes of our adventures and maybe one day I will write the book you talked about. I know your journey is done and you are on the otherside laughing and telling stories of your deeds on this earth, much to the delight of those who went before you. One day we too will enjoy your laughter and stories, "There I was...."

Many prayers for the Lewis Family and all who have lost such a precious man for which God granted all who encountered him a joyful experience to share. Woody was one of my best friends, since he moved to the Tohono O'Odham Naiton in the community of ChuiChu.  This was many years ago and after he moved to on to bigger and brighter things we still kept in contact numerous ways such as meeting up for the annual Arizona State Sundevils and arizona game when it would be held in Tempe.  We also met up at various conferences such as NCAI all over the country.  It was a great pleasure to have a friend such as Woody.  My wife and I will always remember him and miss him. A man who will never be forgotten and loved throughout eternity. Woody and I shared many trips together as we talked, joked, laughed and even cried together. I will always remember the heartfelt love he gave to me and all those he encountered. It's still a shock to me that he is gone but I know I will see him when I am called home. Woody always said we should write a book of our ventures and I plan to do so. May you rest in peace Woody and may God grant the family healing during this precious loss. You are loved Woody.

When I moved to Nevada and began working with missing and exploited children, Woody welcomed me and made sure I had the resources I needed. He was a mentor and became a dear friend. Those first three words he began with always made you smile.

I considered Woody a dear friend, though we only saw one another occasionally after he graduated from Parker High School.

Always a gentleman, kind and humorous. It was a privilege to know him.

Woody and I were classmates and graduated together from Parker High School.  He always had a smile on his face and fun to be around.  So happy we had time to reminence at our 40th class reunion.  You will always be the brightess star in the heavens.  Until me meet again.

I will always remember Woody for all of the wonderful things he did for my daughter Ashley aka Ash the Crash.  I always thought of him as her second Dad.  He loved her and she loved him.  He was a true hero in our eyes and I take comfort in knowing that he is in a better place watching over all of us.  I miss him and will keep his memory alive for my grandchildren, Ashley's son and daughter. Save a place for us, until we see you again.
