

ALICE M. (ROUNDS) WADDINGTON, 101, formerly of New Albany IN, died Saturday, July 11, 2015 in Sioux City, Iowa. The daughter of the late Jess and Kathryn (Braun) Rounds, Alice was born June 9, 1914 in Sioux City. Alice was the 5th of 10 children. As a child, she spent summers helping her grandma can fruits and vegetables. She knew how many corn cobs it took to bake a cake in the old cook stove. Alice met Joseph Waddington on a blind date. They married April 22, 1935 at St. Boniface in Sioux City and spent their honeymoon in Le Mars, Iowa, borrowing Joe’s dad’s 1928 Chevy to get there. She and Joe would redeem their milk bottles to be able to go to a Sunday matinee in Sioux City for 16 cents and then go to Milwaukee Weiner for the best hotdog in town. They moved to Yankton, SD in 1948 and then to New Albany, IN in 1964. Joe died on December 14, 1974 in New Albany, IN. Alice worked for J.C. Penney’s for 37 years, starting in Sioux City then Yankton, SD for 16 years, retiring from the Louisville, KY store. She moved back to Sioux City in 2000 to be with family. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Sioux City.
Alice traveled twice to Europe and traveled the United States, covering all 50 states, Alaska being her favorite. She loved watching the Kentucky Derby. Gardening, canning, sewing and cooking were some of her favorite pastimes. She made 100 afghans and 5 quilts.
The family would like to thank the staff at Westwood Care Center in Sioux City for the special care extended to Alice.
Along with her husband and parents, Alice was preceded in death by siblings, Herbert, Helen Bechard, Etta Mae Gereau Fitzgerald, Wilber “Buster”, LaVon Zook, Kenneth, Gene, and Mildred “Sis” Renner. She is survived by her sister, Lois Wald of Costa Mesa, CA; her niece, Barbara Sypersma of Sioux City, IA; numerous great nieces and nephews; as well as many dear friends in Iowa, South Dakota and Indiana.
A Committal Service will be held Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at 10:30 am at Kraft Funeral Service, 2776 Charlestown Road, New Albany, Indiana.
