Archie was never one to be idle and after knee surgery, he carried his walker over his shoulder and up the stairs because his doctor said he had to use it. He was a loving father, grandfather and great grandfather who had a smile and a kind word for everyone. He always carried in his wallet an aluminum coin that said "Betty Voyles love Archie." They got it at a fair when they were dating. It left a permanent circular indentation in the leather. It was there the day he died. Betty recently read him their old love letters. He told her that he still felt the same way. He was a member of Graceland Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and elder. Archie and Betty worked with Graceland Outreach Ministry, a bus ministry, for 17 years. He worked as a machinist at International Harvester for 25 years and for 12 years as Graceland's head of maintenance.
Archie was born September 23, 1931 in Corydon to Chester Brian Emily and Lula Emily Melton. He is preceded in death by his parents; four brothers: Kenny, Paul, Max and Larry Emily; four sisters: Bonnie Emily, Lou Ann Price, Helen Sears and Ruby Elliot; and daughter-in-law, Cynthia Emily.
In addition to his wife, Archie is survived by his sister, Marilyn Banet; sister-in-law, Marlene Emily; sister-in-law, Phyllis Stephens and her husband, Perry; brother-in-law, Paul Voyles; son Roger Emily and his wife, Marsha; granddaughter Jennifer Emily and her husband, Jeff Mosier; grandson Joshua Emily and his wife, Ashleigh; grandson Jordan Emily; and great granddaughters Caroline and Harper Mosier.
