

Holy Family Catholic Church parishioner, CAROL ELIZABETH (BEST) ULSH, 95 years old, born April 27, 1919, passed away at home on Thursday, January 8, 2015. She has been a member of the Church for over 60 years and was one of the founding members of Holy Family in 1954. She taught at Holy Family School for several years in the 1960’s and was a past member of the Marian Guild and the Legion of Mary.
Carol was the daughter of Virginia and Clarence Best (deceased) and the wife of Louis Edward Ulsh who preceded her in death. She is survived by her three daughters: Mary Osterman (Joe) of Bowling Green, Kentucky, Rose Augustine (Kenny) of Louisville, Kentucky, and Patricia Thompson of New Albany, Indiana. She had 10 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Carol received her Master’s Degree in Special Education in 1972, and taught Special Education in the Jefferson County Schools from 1969 to 1986 when she retired. Later she returned to work full time in 2001, at age 82, as a teacher at Advanced Learning Center, Louisville, until she retired again in 2008 at age 89.
Carol was a member of KEA, NEA, and numerous charitable organizations. She enjoyed activities with her family, traveling, and playing in card clubs.
Visitation will be at Kraft Funeral Service, 708 E. Spring Street, New Albany, from 5 pm to 9 pm Monday, January 12. Her Funeral Mass will be at 11 am Tuesday, January 13 at Holy Family Church, 129 West Daisy Lane, New Albany IN, with burial to follow in Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery.
