She was born on August 10, 1936 in Floyds Knobs, Indiana to the late Martin W. Korbe and Clara M. (Andres) Korbe.
Catherine was employed at the New Albany Box & Basket Co. until it closed in 1996, and then worked at The Hoosier Panel Company until she retired in 2001. She was a longtime member of Saint Mary's Catholic Church and the Altar Society in New Albany before moving to Commerce, GA in 2018 to live with her daughter, son-in-law and granddog, Gretchen..
She enjoyed traveling, photography, yard sales, playing cards with family and friends, doing jigsaw and word search puzzles, reading, crocheting, playing board games, listening to country music, watching "Dancing With The Stars", looking at the wildlife outside her living room window, and playing with her beloved granddogs, Ava and Winnie.
In addition to her parents, Catherine was preceded in death by her husband Ernest Eugene Sutherland of New Albany, IN; and her sister Mary (Korbe) Kirchgessner of Floyds Knobs, IN.
She leaves to cherish her memory daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Dean Ward of Commerce, GA; daughter Norma Bobbitt of San Diego, CA; sister Martha (Korbe) Gesenhues of New Albany, IN; granddaughter Michelle Bailey and her husband, Steve, of Hull, Georgia; and numerous nieces and nephews that she loved and adored.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, September 18, 2026 at Kraft Funeral Service (708 E. Spring St, New Albany, IN). Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 19, 2026 at the Kraft Chapel, with entombment to follow at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park in New Albany.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Catherine's memory to the New Albany Animal Shelter on 215 W.
