

Charles "Charlie" A. Marking, 94, passed away surrounded by his family on March 20, 2026, in Sellersburg, Indiana. He was born in Louisville, Kentucky, on June 6, 1931, to the late Arthur J. Marking and Antoinette A. (Schoenbaechler) Marking.
Charlie proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He was a pipefitter on the LST 758. In his retirement years he worked with the restoration of the LST 325, and was an Honorary Crew Member of the LST 325.
He was a longtime member of Holy Family Catholic Church in New Albany.
Charlie was a retired auto mechanic and former co-owner of Highland Auto Service.
Charlie was a self-made man and Jack of all trades. Along with his wife, Loretta, they built their home in Lanesville, Indiana. In his retirement years he enjoyed woodworking, wine making, car restoration, and RV travels throughout the United States.
In addition to his parents, Charlie is preceded in death by his wives, Loretta Ann (Schueler) Marking, Theresa (Higdon) Payne Marking, partner, Patty Jenks; siblings, Anthony Marking, Bernadette Fife and Bertha Zabel.
Charlie is survived by his loving children, Chuck Marking (Cathy), Wayne Marking (Virginia), and Lisa Owen (Neil); Grandchildren, Emily McCaffery (Sean), Sam Marking (Emma), Andrew Marking (Allie), Carrie LeClair (Steve), Alexandra Marking, Carlynn Rhodes, Grace Jones (Noah), Bekah Owen, Will Owen (Marli) and Nelson Owen; 8 Great-Grandchildren and one on the way; Siblings, Alberta Wagner, Mary Didat, Arthur Marking (Rita), Joseph Marking, Rita Schueler, Ruth Houghton, Kathleen Stewart and brother-in-law, Darrell Zabel.
A Visitation will be held at Kraft Funeral Service, 708 East Spring, New Albany, Indiana, on Wednesday March 25th from 2:00 pm- 8:00 pm & on Thursday March 26th from 9:30 am - 10:30 am.
A Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church, 129 West Daisy Lane, New Albany, Indiana, on Thursday March 26th at 11:00 am. Committal Service with Military Honors will follow in Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for expressions of sympathy to be made to Holy Family Catholic Church or St. Vincent De Paul Society at Holy Family Catholic Church.
