Charles Lee Threlkel

Charlie is survived by his devoted wife of over 47 years, Betty, the love of his life. They were truly inseparable, sharing every part of life's journey together. Whether traveling across the country from coast to coast or simply enjoying each other's company, their greatest joy was being together.

In recent years, Charlie faithfully devoted himself to Betty's care. He visited her every day at Green Valley Care Center, spending countless hours by her side. Together, they participated in bingo, Valentine's Day dances, holiday dinners, and other activities and social events, creating treasured memories until the very end.

Charlie never met a stranger. His warm smile, kind heart, and welcoming spirit made everyone feel at home. Whether greeting a neighbor's grandchild, a maintenance worker at Green Valley, a cashier at Kroger, or a company executive, Charlie treated every person with the same genuine kindness, respect, and compassion. He believed everyone deserved to be welcomed with a smile.

Charlie retired after many years of dedicated service with International Harvester, and later with Navistar in Indianapolis, IN. Outside of work, music was one of his greatest passions. He spent several years as the lead singer of a band he founded, bringing joy to many through his love of performing.

As fate would have it, Charlie first met Betty while performing when he spotted a beautiful young woman wearing a red dress. It wasn't long before the two fell deeply in love, beginning a marriage built on unwavering devotion, laughter, and companionship. Charlie also shared his gift of music for many years at St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Albany. More than three decades ago, Charlie and Betty became faithful members of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, where they remained active in their parish family.

Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Dixie Threlkel, along with other beloved family members.

The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff of Green Valley Care Center, with special appreciation to Theresa "T" for her loving care and compassion. Charlie and Betty were deeply grateful for the love, kindness, friendship, and exceptional care shown to them throughout the years. The staff became more than caregivers- they became a part of their extended family.

Charlie and Betty extend their appreciation to their niece, Debbie Dougherty, and her husband, Dave, for their care and support. The four shared many wonderful memories.

Charlie's greatest legacy was not found in his career or accomplishments, but in the love he shared so freely. His unwavering devotion to Betty, his deep faith, his gift of music, and the kindness he showed to everyone he met will forever be remembered by those who had the privilege of knowing him. Though he will be deeply missed, his gentle spirit and warm smile will continue to live on in the hearts of all who loved him.

A visitation will be held at Kraft Funeral Service, 2776 Charlestown Road, New Albany, Indiana, on Friday, August 14, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:45 am.

A funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 1752 Scheller Lane, New Albany, Indiana, at 12:00 pm.

Charlie will be laid to rest privately at Saint Mary's Catholic Cemetery, New Albany, Indiana.
