Charles "Charlie" Henry Vetter, age 81, of Lanesville, Indiana, passed away peacefully and unexpectedly on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at his residence in Lanesville, Indiana. Charlie was born on February 28, 1944, in Louisville, Kentucky, to the late Henry Herman Vetter Jr. and Lillie Belle (Keith) Vetter. Charlie retired in the late 1990s from Ralston Purina (Protein Technologies) as a 3rd shift team leader.
His life was dedicated to working and supporting his family. Any spare hours were spent riding his motorcycle, fishing, and working with wood. He had a fabulous gift for "conceptual carving" - he could look at a car, motorcycle, boat, and then carve it out of a block of wood. He loved to give these items to family and friends. He also enjoyed jigsaw puzzles - the more pieces in the puzzle, the better he liked it. What all of us who loved him will always remember is his dry sense of humor. Charlie always spoke the "unspeakable" and did it with style. In recent years, he was a dedicated companion to his brothers, Alvin and Larry, before their deaths.
Charlie is preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Alvin Vetter and Larry Vetter.
His children will lovingly remember Charlie, including Michael Vetter, Nevin Vetter, Aaron Vetter, and Adam Vetter; his brother, Kenneth Vetter Sr., and sister, Debbie Vetter Temple.
Charlie leaves behind a host of relatives who will cherish his memory: Grandchildren, Michael (Joey), Matthew, Claire Vetter, Adeline Vetter, Freia Vetter, Lillian Vetter, and Christopher Vetter; Sister-in-Law, Jackie Vetter; Nephews, Kenneth Vetter Jr., Mendall Vetter, Chris Vetter and Philip Vetter; Nieces, Susan Vetter Brock and Sarah Vetter. Among his large extended family, Charlie was especially fond of his Great-nieces, Brittney York and Kayla Hoover and their daughters, Madelyn York and Penelope Sullivan; and Great-nephew, Eyan Hoover. In addition to family, Charlie had many friends, including Natasha Daniels, Mike Hanson and Sir Minimus (the family pet).
A visitation for Charles will be held on Friday, September 5, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Kraft Funeral Service, 2776 Charlestown Road, New Albany, Indiana 47150, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM.
A Private Burial will be held at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park.
