

She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and friend to many. Clara was born on May 24, 1926 in Louisville, KY. She was the daughter of Charles and Ruth (Mae Hughes) Eigelbach. She retired from the U.S. Federal Census Bureau and spent numerous years volunteering at hospitals and cancer support groups.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Howard Eigelbach, and by her loving husband of 43 years, James S. Sargent. Also by her devoted companion and care giver, Ray Cagle for the last 23 years.
She is survived by her brother, Don Eigelbach; her three children, Steve (Christy), Tom Eigelbach (Diana), and April Wright (Jim); five grandchildren, Laura Knight (John), Jake Stearns (Shelley), Christopher, Amanda and Stephen Sargent; two great-grandchildren Logan and Gavin.
Friends and family were Clara’s passion and delight. She loved to host and entertain at home or wherever her travels took her, and made friends wherever she went. She was a faithful member of St. Anthony’s Parish in Clarksville, Indiana for over 55 years.
Clara’s family wishes to express appreciation to all of those who cared for her during her last few months; especially Debbie Johnson, Priscilla Evans and the caregivers at Avow Hospice in Naples.
Visitation will be from 1:00 pm – 8:00 pm Thursday, February 12, 2015 at Kraft Funeral Service, 2776 Charlestown Road, New Albany, IN 47150. A service to celebrate Clara’s life will be at 11:00 am on Friday, February 13, 2015, also at the funeral home, with burial at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park. There will be a meal following the service at Buckhead’s Mountain Grill on the River, 707 West Riverside Drive, Jeffersonville, IN 47130.
