Darlene M. Schy

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we announce the passing of Darlene Schy on April 2, 2022 at the age of 75. Darlene was born March 7, 1947 in New Albany, Indiana to the late Julius and Rosetta (Hess) Smith. She worked for US Steel, Bruce Fox, and Visiting Nurse Association (VNA). Darlene was a member of St. John Paul II Catholic Church in Sellersburg, Indiana and along with her parents was preceded in death by her brothers, Richard "Dick" Smith and James "Jim" Smith.

She is survived by her husband, Martin Schy; sons, Tony Schy (Cheryl), Ben Schy (Stefanie); siblings, Phyllis Andres (Ron), Juder Smith (Jean), Jerry Smith (Elaine), Karen Thomas (Tim), Denise Bombersbach (Brad); sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Smith, Linda Smith; grandchildren, Justin, Allison, Lillie, and Matthew Schy.

Darlene’s joy and laughter was infectious. She was an avid card and majhong player; she enjoyed playing with “the girls” in their winter home in Okeechobee, Florida. Darlene was always up for a travel adventure with her beloved husband, Martin, and they created many memories together. Darlene loved her role as “mamaw” and had a very special relationship with her four grandchildren. She was a loyal and kind friend, as evidenced by the many long time friendships she held dear.

Visitation will be 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm Wednesday at Kraft Funeral Service, 2776 Charlestown Road, New Albany, Indiana. Her Funeral Mass is 10:00 am Thursday at St. John Paul II Catholic Church, 2253 W. St. Joe Road, Sellersburg, Indiana. 47172.

Darlene will be laid to rest in Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park, 2776 Charlestown Road, New Albany, Indiana 47150.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Darlene's memory may be made to Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center or Hosparus Health of Southern Indiana.
