David was exceptional from his earliest days. To his father's delight and his mother's dismay, he could balance standing in his father's hands as a baby. At three years old, the REMC lineworkers would spend their lunch breaks with David just to hear him spout facts he read in the encyclopedia. At four he wandered into a piano store and started playing a song he heard in church, despite never touching a piano before. As an adult he taught himself calculus and tried desperately to explain theoretical physics to anyone that would listen.
David had an incredible mind, and a heart that matched. He was a loving son, brother, and husband. He never failed to make his sister's birthday special, usually with a series of increasingly insulting limericks and one-liners delivered over voicemail.
He was married to Shannon Taylor Kaufer, the love of his life for 32 years.
David is preceded in death by his father, Bob Kaufer, whom we imagine met him in heaven with rod and reel in hand.
Left to mourn the loss of our beloved David are his wife, Shannon Taylor Kaufer; Mother, Darlene Kaufer; Siblings, Susan Kaufer, Brent Kaufer, and Tim Taylor (brother-in-law); and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
The Funeral Mass will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 30 at St. Joseph Catholic Church (312 E High Street, Corydon, IN). Burial will follow at Holy Trinity Cemetery in New Albany, Indiana.
