David Wayne Vest, 60, originally from New Albany, Indiana, passed away peacefully on September 16, 2023 after an illness. He was surrounded by his devoted mother, Janet Baumann Vest, and loving sisters, Diane Phelps and Jennifer Voos.
David was a very kind, hard-working, loving father, husband, son, brother and friend. He enjoyed fishing, golf, duck hunting, and spending time with his family. In the early 90’s, David was diagnosed with schizophrenia and all that he loved and enjoyed was gone. He spent the rest of his life longing for everything this horrible disease robbed him.
In the last year of his life, he resided at the Waters of Scottsburg in Scottsburg, Indiana. While at Waters he was quick to make friends and willingly shared anything he had. It was not unusual for David to request two things from his mother or sisters in order to share with someone he just met. David found great joy in making sure the birdfeeders on the property were full and the plants were well-attended. He spent his days reading the Bible and sharing scriptures with all he encountered. After many years of anguish and suffering, David found a place where he belonged. Thank you to Waters for giving him this gift. A special thank you to Bill for taking David to mass and shopping.
David’s family will be having a graveside service at Kraft Funeral Services on Charlestown Rd on Wednesday, September 20th at 10 am.
In lieu of flowers, a donation in David’s honor may be made to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) at www.nami.org
It is our hope that those with mental illness will no longer need to suffer alone but be afforded all treatment options and support to function alongside us all.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.kraftfs.com for the Vest family.
