Dean Alan Richey, 68, Charlestown, formerly New Albany, passed away Friday, July 16, at Baptist Floyd Hospital. He was born at Camp Atterbury, Indiana, to Elba and Ruth Jacques Richey on February 19, 1953.
Dean attended First Baptist Church, New Albany, and was retired from Louisville Water Co. He was proud to be part of a military family, living across the world, and felt this helped him to be an outgoing, friendly person. He never met a stranger and always had a smile.
For many years he was a member of the American Legion Bonnie Sloan and enjoyed singing karaoke. He had a beautiful voice and enjoyed music from the big band era and crooners such as Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra. As his friends know, Dean had a great sense of humor and loved telling jokes.
Dean was preceded in death by his father, grandparents, aunts Mildred Plue and Elizabeth Jacques and uncle Vernon Jacques. He was surely met in heaven by his sister in law, Linda Lethco, with a pan of persimmon pudding.
He is loved greatly and survived by his wife of 43 years Norma Proctor Richey, daughter Suzanne Richey and his grand dog Henni. Also surviving are his mother Ruth, Nashville, sister Diane Haupt, Nashville, brothers David, Colorado, and Darrell, Indianapolis He leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, several sisters in law and numerous friends.
We would like to thank our family and friends who have been there for us and helped us through this ordeal. Dean wanted everyone to remember him with a smile and not sorrow. He loved and was loved by so many.
Visitation will be 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm Tuesday at Kraft Funeral Service, 2776 Charlestown Road, New Albany, Indiana. His Funeral Service will be 11:00 am Wednesday at the funeral home chapel with burial at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park in New Albany, Indiana
The family requests expressions of sympathy to First Baptist Church in New Albany or the Southern Indiana Animal Rescue.
