Obituary of Donald E. McCartin
McCartin, Donald E., 85, passed away peacefully on November 23, 2012 at Floyd Memorial Hospital in New Albany. Don was the founder of McCartin Real Estate in New Albany for some 60 years and was a World War II veteran having served in the US Marine Corps. He was a founding member of the Southern Indiana Board of Realtors, past member of the Lions Club of New Albany and lifelong member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. He served in the past on the Floyd Memorial Hospital Board of Trustees, was a former member of the Floyd County Council, the New Albany City Council and the Floyd County Building Authority. Don was also a member of the Bonnie Sloan Post #28 American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Cardinal Ritter Council Knights of Columbus and the Redmen Club all in New Albany. He was a lifelong member of the Democratic Party and was an inductee of the Southern Indiana Board of Realtors Hall of Fame. Don was preceded in death by his parents, Lorena and Fred McCartin Sr.; two brothers, Fred Jr. and James; a sister, Shirley Mull; and son-in-law, William Butterweck. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Viola (Bell) "Big" McCartin; seven children, Kay Grube, Debbie Butterweck, Gary McCartin (Donna), Steve McCartin (Sarah), Greg McCartin, Richard McCartin (Paula) and Diane Benedetti (Michael); one sister, Bonnie Smith (Jerry); three brothers, Thomas (Rosie), Ronnie (Pam) and Dave McCartin (Brenda); He was the proud grandfather of 22 grandchildren including, Amy, Aaron, Ali, Brad, Brian, Matthew, Michael, Ryan, Lauren, Chad, Blake, Lindsey, Mary Michael, Nicklaus, Alex, Wesley, Kyrah, Christopher, Andrew, Justin, Michael and Erin; He was also the great-grandfather of 16 great-grandchildren. The family would like to express their gratitude for the compassionate care provided by Doris Smith. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. - 7 p.m. Sunday, November 25, 2012 at Kraft Funeral Service, 708 E. Spring St., New Albany. His funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, November 26, 2012 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 1752 Scheller Ln., New Albany with entombment to follow in Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park in New Albany, IN.
