

Donald Joseph Missi, 80, passed away Saturday, August 24, 2013 at Floyd Memorial Hospital in New Albany, Indiana with his family by his side. Don was born January 17, 1933 in New Albany to the late Peter L. and Idabell C. (Ackerman) Missi. He grew up in Starlight, Indiana as one of seven children. On May 2, 1953 he married Mary Lucille Becht, his wife of 60 years.
Don worked for Starlight Cabinet for many years, and retired from Sears after 33 years. For 5 years he worked as a floral deliverer for the Flower Shoppe in New Albany, a job he truly loved. He has been a member of St. Mary of the Knobs Church for 60 years. He was one of the original organizers of the Floyds Knobs Community Club and the Mount St. Francis Picnic. Don loved his family dearly and was a man well liked by all.
Along with his wife, Lucille, he is survived by his children, Richard, Sr. (Glenda), Deborah Naville (Jerry), Donald (Rhoda), Timothy (Connie), Laura Engle (Don), Patrick (Debbie), and Lisa Huber (Mark); 28 grandchildren; 38 great grandchildren and one on the way; sisters, Maurice Engle, Martha Engle (Jake), Mary L. Becht (Richard); brother, Bill Rothrock (Linda); sisters-in-law, Barbara Missi, Sandy Pinnick (Ralph), Phyllis Smallwood, and Linda Steinbrenner.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Marvin Missi and Robert Missi; sister, Mae Kaelin; and his grandson, Brian Missi.
Visitation will be from 12:00 pm ~ 8:00 pm Wednesday at Kraft Funeral Service, 708 E. Spring Street, New Albany, Indiana. A prayer service will be held 4:00 pm Wednesday at the funeral home. His Funeral Mass will be 10:00 am Thursday at St. Mary of the Knobs Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
