

Donald, (Duck) as he is widely known, had a distinguished military career serving in both the Marines and Air Force, receiving several medals of merit. Duck completed two tours in Viet Nam, served as an honor guard under President Eisenhower and later on a security detail for Jimmy Carter. Duck finished his military career as a Senior Master Sergeant at SAC headquarters, in charge of roads and grounds maintenance, and most importantly, ensuring constant runway readiness.
Following his military career Duck continued his education receiving degrees in building construction, industrial, and electronics engineering. From early childhood through his final years one of Duck’s greatest loves has been golf, especially playing with his brothers, sons and grandchildren. Over the years Duck helped to design and build several golf courses including those at military installations and the addition of the final nine holes at Wooded View in Clarksville Indiana.
Duck will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather, for his generosity, his kindness and understanding, his light-hearted sense of humor and his faith.
Donald is preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife of 64 years, Shirley Sutton; his siblings, Melvin Sutton, Connie Watson, Sonny Sutton, Jean Baldwin, and Almeda Zagoric.
Donald is survived by his three children, Don Sutton Jr. (Stephanie), Sheldon L. Sutton (Missy), and Belinda Rohr (Dean); his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his brother, Carl Sutton (Carolyn); and extended family and friends.
A visitation for Donald will be held at Kraft Funeral Service, 2776 Charlestown Road, New Albany, Indiana, on Friday, March 13, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. and Saturday, March, 14, 2026, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm.
A funeral service will be held at the Kraft Funeral Service, on Saturday, March 14, 2026, at 12:00 pm.
An inurnment of his ashes will take place on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at 11:00 am at the Chapel of the Cross in Kraft Graceland Memorial Park, where he will be placed next to his wife.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made the VFW Hobart Beach Post 1693 in his memory.
